What is Christian Home Educators?

Christian Home Educators (CHE) is a membership organization offering fellowship and support for private home school families. We have groups based in Eureka, Arcata/ McKinleyville and Fortuna. We are a member of the state-wide CHEA (Christian Home Educators Assoc. of Calif. Inc.) Support Network.

What does CHE do?

CHE, through its local support groups, offers its members many events during the year. These events include field tips, classes, parent education nights, group picnics, and annual happenings such as Curriculum Fairs, Speakers and Legal Information Night. We also publish the monthly CHE Newsletter and annual Member's Guide which include information on events offered by CHE, and home schooling news and Information from around the county, the state and the nation. Our CHE library contains many resources for curriculum, as well as general information on home schooling. Membership also provides a discount, when possible, on county wide events.

Why educate at home?

Parents choose to home school for many reasons. Many home schoolers object to the secular/New Age viewpoint or peer pressure often found in public schools. Some remove their children due to health or personality reasons. Many others simply believe that God has convicted them to assume personal responsibility for their children's education according to their awn family's Christian values. Home schooling is a serious commitment to a family-centered lifestyle.

What are the benefits of home schooling?

One of the best results of home schooling is the way that families are drawn back together. There is less competition for the affections and loyalties of your children. A flexible schedule allows the parents to decide which activities the family will pursue. The one-to-one teaching ratio also allows for excellent academic achievement.

 What about "socialization"?

Contrary to popular opinion, extensive peer contact causes peer dependency and therefore a low self-image. Freedom from peer pressure fosters self-confidence, independent thinking, the ability to relate to people of all ages, and improved family relations. Home schooled children are involved daily with "the real world" and have the parent-fostered opportunity to grow up well prepared for living in this world, and the next!

 Is it Legal?

Private home schooling can operate legally under several options in this state.
